What do YOU think?
Derrick and I are battling it out over what we are going to name this precious baby girl who's on her way, so we decided to enlist your help. We definitely like Ainsley, and we definitely like Earis (pronounced "Air"-iss). Here's the dilemma: Earis is Derrick's Great-Grandma's name, so we want to spell it the way she did. However, I am having issues with the fact that it looks like you would pronounce it "Ear"-iss. So I would much rather it be a middle name. Ainsley Earis Tornow. Fantastic, right? But Derrick prefers Earis Ainsley Tornow (BE SURE TO PRONOUNCE IT RIGHT!). We really do like both names, but I am just having this little issue. So how about you all let us know what you think? Would you go with Earis or Ainsley for the first name? Do you hate both names? Do you have any other suggestions? Who knows, this baby could come out looking like a Laquisha, so nothing is set in stone. But we'd like to at least have an idea of what we might call this kid!

Wouldn't Derrick start questioning if this girl came out looking like a "laquisha"? I hear you though- I'm all about namesakes, but I also think about the poor girl having to correct EVERY teacher and then getting teased on the "Ear" thing. Of course this is coming from one who just named her daughter Joanna (after 2 grandma's) but we fully intend to call her Anna. My personal vote would be Ainsley Earis for this reason. But not if it causes marrital strife. Or give Derrick the choice. Earis for a middle name or Airiss/Aaris... for a first. Or stick with Ainsley Earis and call her by her middle name and throw everyone off.
Good luck!
My sister Jana votes for Ainsley Earis
100% with you on the EAR-is problem. Great for a middle name, but she would definitely envy her older sister's more easily pronounced first name!! Don't want to create envy, right? :) She would spend her entire life correcting everyone who came in contact with her. I agree with the first comment. Airis (or whatever) for a first name or Earis for a middle name :)
And since my opinion so totally counts and all....whatever :)
I think that Earis Ainsley rolls better off the tongue, but I would try to talk Derrick into dropping the "E". Because if by some bad stroke of luck she ends up with big ears, well, you catch my drift.
From Annie Thomas: I personally like Earis as a middle name. But they really are both so
cute. She will love either one.
From Tricia Walker: Definitely Ainsley first. . .I love the name Earis! Though after suffering with Annekke's name and the eventual mis-pronouncements, I would go with the "easier" name first. Anyway, when you say "earis ainsley", the "s" sound comes out too much, too close together. "ainsley earis", the "s" sound is further apart and the name flows easier. Just my opinion.
Tricia
I like Earis as the first name. It is ok if people pronounce it wrong. You would not believe what Zeke gets called! It is beautiful!
Earis as the first name and I would spell it Aeris? Aris?
Oooohhh, DEFINITELY Ainsley for the first name (no offense to Derrick's GG) it is easier to pronounce but I just love that name anyway-I wish I'd heard of it 5 years ago! And I agree with Shar about the big ear thing, that could be a potentially emotionally-damaging situation...

Oh, I hear you! Names are the hardest! I would go with Earis as the middle name. I really like both names. Earis would be a hard first name though. I am with everyone on either spelling it a different way for the first name, or using it as a middle name. I think that Ainsley and Cecily sound soo good together.
holy cow....what a challenge a name can be just name her Jane.
I am a fan of names that come from family but I have to be honest - Earis throws me for a loop. My bother Geoff named his little girl ARIA and people always say "area". Though cute, different names like that can be hard! My vote...Ainsley. You are still using the family name as the middle name and her first name will be pronounced correctly - you would hope! :) I am sure she will be beautiful and will be able to pull off whatever name you give her! Good luck. I hate picking out names!
I like Ainsley better. Troy had a cousin named Aris, but he's a boy. I like Ainsley Earis Turnow though I think it's pretty.
I like both names. Whatever you decide to pick, I think would be great! You will have pronunciation problems with either name, I think. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love the name Ainsley too, but Earis is really cute also. I think I'd probably agree with most everyone and do Ainsley Earis. And I'm totally with you on the battling over a name thing. Milt and I can't even talk about it anymore. We've just decided to keep harmony in the home and not even discuss it until the hospital. So good luck. At least you have a little longer to decide! We only have one week left, although three years more probably would not be enough to agree on a boy's name!
I vote Laquisha.
Kidding. I think most people would mis-pronounce Earis, which would drive her crazy her entire life. Beautiful name, though! It would be great as a middle name & I love Ainsley.
Ainsley is my vote, very cute:)
Both are really awesome names, my vote is for Ainsley Earis, good luck, I know its a hard decision.
I vote for Ainsley Earis, or Laquisha. It's a toss up. Cute!!!
I like them both. I think no matter what you name kids people always find a way to mispronounce it. I thought I was good with Dallin but you'd be surprised what he gets called especially from those not members of the church. And, look at Deanne...people call her DeannA all the time so I just call her Dina..you know, like someones in the kitchen with Dina!! Much easier!!!
Another vote for Ainsley Earis. Derrick has an uphill battle!
You are smart to be deciding now. I sit here with my 7 day old baby with NO name! We have like 5 but cannot decide.
I personally am for Earis, but I think if Derrick does get his way with the name, you should get to spell it how you want. Naming her after Derrick's grandma is honor in itself. The spelling is just details that will help people pronounce it correctly for the rest of her life. Good luck!
You are almost past your 100 days mark for your pregnancy! That went by so fast. She will be here before we know it! How are you doing?
